Even as the name ‘agli’ harkens me back to Honeymoon days, ago, [Not counting airline food] my first supper as a husband w my bride @ Enoteca Caprainica, Rome, and it makes me hungry…
AGLI is not pasta.
AGLI stands for Artificial General Legal Intelligence and it is coming together due to dematerialization degeographicalisation, #web3, and the common good of Law for humanity. Let us hope that the ‘Artificial’ reads a little more like ‘Actual’ or ‘Aggregate.’
Much talk all over the media and Elon and Sam fights about AGI [Artificial General Intelligence].
“It will happen!” “When will it happen?” “It will be here in 3-7 years.”
Hey, that was 1970!
To many, ‘achieving’ AGI is a lot like “Climate Change.” For how does one “solve” the climate?
Human knowledge (intelligence), like climate, is bigger than us and in motion and thus in constant flux. How could one capture each and every raindrop of intelligence? Many are not even sure it is possible, even if the leading figures in AI are staking multiple billions (and fighting in court) and also Trillions on it. Dubious.
Plus, even if he doesn’t really change, man is constant change. See the news… And that’s called innovation and we love it.
What about 5 people “deciding” (curating?) on All World + History Intelligence…?
However, it is far different and more likely with discrete knowledge areas of intelligence — like the Law. There it is possible to mostly capture it in one place, at least to the extent that it will be mostly comprehensive, provided there is a mechanism to keep it updated on an ongoing basis.
Three things would be required to capture All Law for Humanity:
Language translation tools coming of age. [Check]
Many people freely coordinating on a common purpose. [Brewing]
An open, decentralized machine to make it so. [Growing]
On the third, nothing affords us so great an opportunity as the blockchain and a focused DAO [Decentralized Autonomous Organization]. Orientation on DAO from 2021.
These are already underway in several dispersed efforts, and it is very exciting.
Its many practical uses for lawyers [automated and anonymous effectuation and storage of transactions and transaction data for repeated iterations, IP validations, counterparty action automation, even at some point forms of adjudication] should over time draw greater participation from lawyers everywhere in the world, which will be required in order to provide the continuous updating required.
Each working in their own self-interest, creating reliable threads of data can, if coordinated to some cogency, result in an integrated intertwined whole plate of lawpasta - completo!
Here is a collection of thought — some “new news” articles on Medium yet with good content — yet ending in 2018… Catch up.
IT CAN NOW BE EFFECTIVELY ACCELERATED WITH AI
In order for it to work, it will require an open coordination by many in Law worldwide. It ought to be considered a professional responsibility for a lawyer to learn and participate in the humanity’s global legal ecosystem; studying, building, contributing. Five or fifty or five hundred cannot do it. And central control, and the self interest and proprietary bias that always necessarily suggests and/or invites, will kill it.
Imagine calling up “What is the Law” from anyone anywhere in the world? Like water from a faucet, freely available, evergreen and ongoing Legal Reference for all at all times?
‘An Internet of Law’
The Dao of Law is more than possible. It will happen in our lifetimes.
