AI Brings Voice Back to Life

Did you know that famed country singer Randy Travis is the first to have released an AI-generated audio track of himself?

In 2013, Travis suffered a serious stroke and ended up going through 3 separate brain surgeries. He developed "aphasia" and lost the ability to sing.

Despite his many many hits, he still wanted to record and release yet another song. Singers and composers are like this.

Yet his disability prevented singing anymore in his famed ability.

A studio musician recording was recorded as a base rendering.

And in post-production, two proprietary AI models were used, with reference data being Travis' 1985-2013 recordings -- to conform the voice recording to Randy Travis' authentic signature style.

AI and "voice cloning" technology brings a silenced voice back to life.

There was a legal dispute, in which the studio musician was not clear that his track would be used in this manner, yet it was successfully resolved. This will be a very large area of growth in legal controversies going forward.

Country stars Carrie Underwood, Cole Swindell, and Clay Walker were invited to the studio to preview the song ahead of its May 2, 2024 release and reacted to it with "a mix of joy and wonder".

It was Randy Travis' first charting single since 2005.
